Very good effort done by our some eco-friendly friend.
The ‘RCB Grand Plantation 2014’, which started for beautifying the entire cantonment with greenery, is progressing with great enthusiasm. A large number of cantonment residents are responding to it in a big way. The campaign was launched to add more than 100,000 plants in the cantonment.

This was stated by Rawalpindi Cantonment Executive Officer (CEO) Fahim Zafar Khan while talking to this correspondent here on Monday.

The CEO informed that the campaign comprises two sub-campaigns. First was named ‘Aik Aangan Aik Poda’. For this campaign, Pine, ‘Amaltas’, ‘Chinar’, Guava, ‘Kinnow’, Lemon, ‘Raat ki Rani’ (Cestrum), Alstonia, Bougainvillea and other plants were planted free of cost in houses, offices and at roadsides.

He said that well trained staff of garden branch of RCB were engaged to accomplish the job. These professionals were ordered to approach the houses, offices, schools and colleges etc to ensure proper plantation and to apprise the residents how to take care of these plants.

According to Fahim Zafar, till date 35,000 plants including 1,000 ‘Chinar’ plants, 10,000 Alstonia plants, 10,000 Guava, 5,000 each of Lemon, ‘Kinnow’, Pine and other plants have been planted. As many as 20,000 plants were planted in houses, 5,000 each to Army units and formations, 500 plants to Station HQ, 3,000 to multiple educational institutes and 1,200 plants were given to Chaklala Cantonment Board. Moreover, 6,000 plants were planted along roadsides.

Four vehicles equipped with 20 fully trained manpower and necessary equipment are taking part in this free plantation campaign. Residents don’t have to pay any money for the plants or for the plantation services.

He said that the second campaign, named as ‘RCB Grand Tree Plantation Campaign 2014’, was started with a commitment to plant trees and plants to beautify and uplift the whole Cantonment area. More than 85,000 plants have been planted during this campaign.

These plants consist of Bougainvillea, Pine, Jambolin, Guava plants, Alstonia, ‘Raat ki Rani’ (Cestrum), ‘Nunthra’, Bumentia, Citrus fruits and other.

This campaign also started on 14 August and is still continue. Multiple teams of trained staff are engaged in this campaign. Construction of roadside planters is also a part of the same campaign. Peshawar Road, Sadar, Westridge, Chur Chowk, Race Course and other areas were uplifted during this campaign. The teams are working day and night to speed up the process.
